More complex examinations, such as oncologic imaging studies, may require additional review and can take up to 24 working hours (or up to 3 business days in selected cases). However, the majority of these reports are also completed and made available on the same day to your doctor whenever possible.

Yes, we certainly offer urgent CT scans. The majority of urgent examinations are performed within hours of receiving your referral. These scans are prioritised for both imaging and reporting, with most urgent reports available within 1–2 hours.

Where critical or unexpected findings are identified, our radiologists will promptly communicate the results directly to your referring doctor or, where appropriate, urgently notify your doctor's practice to help facilitate timely patient care.

Contrast is not always required for a CT scan. Whether contrast is needed depends on the clinical question your doctor is asking and the information provided on your referral.

Our team of radiologists and radiographers carefully tailor each examination to provide the most accurate diagnosis while avoiding unnecessary contrast where possible. For example, a CT brain performed to look for bleeding does not usually require contrast, whereas a CT pulmonary angiogram performed to look for blood clots in the lungs requires intravenous contrast to accurately assess the pulmonary arteries.

At IMPACT Radiology, we recognise the importance of prior imaging, as it provides valuable information about your medical history and allows us to accurately assess changes over time. This is particularly important for the detailed evaluation of diseases and complex conditions, such as cancer.

Whenever possible, our radiologists first compare your current examination with any previous imaging performed at IMPACT Radiology. If no prior IMPACT studies are available, we routinely search for and review relevant previous imaging performed at other radiology providers through secure online access. This comparison helps ensure the most accurate interpretation and reduces the likelihood of unnecessary additional investigations.

We are also happy to review images supplied by patients or referrers on a USB drive, provided they are made available to us at the time of reporting.
