A transabdominal ultrasound provides an overview of the pelvis through the lower abdomen. A transvaginal ultrasound places the probe closer to the uterus and ovaries, producing much more detailed images and often improving diagnostic accuracy.
Most women experience only mild pressure or slight discomfort. The examination should not be painful, and every effort is made to ensure your comfort throughout the procedure. You are encourage to inform your sonographer if it becomes painful.
